{"id":8716220,"date":"2023-01-13T16:39:22","date_gmt":"2023-01-14T00:39:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.eastbaytimes.com\/?p=8716220&#038;preview=true&#038;preview_id=8716220"},"modified":"2023-01-15T10:10:54","modified_gmt":"2023-01-15T18:10:54","slug":"club-q-massacre-suspect-hit-with-12-more-charges","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.eastbaytimes.com\/2023\/01\/13\/club-q-massacre-suspect-hit-with-12-more-charges\/","title":{"rendered":"Club Q massacre suspect hit with 12 more charges"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Alaa Elassar | CNN<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The suspected gunman accused of killing five people in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2022\/11\/20\/us\/colorado-springs-shooting-gay-nightclub\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a mass shooting at an LGBTQ nightclub<\/a> in Colorado Springs, Colorado, last November is facing an additional 12 counts, raising the total to 317.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2022\/11\/22\/us\/colorado-suspect-background-aldrich-invs\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Anderson Lee Aldrich<\/a> appeared in court in person Friday, where Colorado&#8217;s Fourth Judicial District Attorney Michael Allen announced the new <strong>felony<\/strong> charges, including four attempted murder charges and two hate crimes.<\/p>\n<p>Aldrich, 22, was<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2022\/12\/06\/us\/club-q-shooting-suspect-charges\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> initially charged in December<\/a> with 305 counts, including charges of first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, assault and bias-motivated crimes causing bodily injury.<\/p>\n<p>The new charges were added for two additional victims present at the nightclub during the shooting at Club Q, Allen told District Judge Michael McHenry.<\/p>\n<p>Aldrich &#8212; whose attorneys say identifies as nonbinary and uses they\/them pronouns &#8212;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2022\/12\/06\/us\/club-q-shooting-suspect-charges\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> faces up to life in prison <\/a>without parole if convicted on the first-degree murder charges.<\/p>\n<p>The suspect allegedly entered Club Q late November 19 with an AR-style weapon and a handgun and<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2022\/11\/20\/us\/colorado-springs-shooting-gay-nightclub\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> opened fire<\/a>, killing Daniel Aston, Raymond Green Vance, Kelly Loving, Ashley Paugh and Derrick Rump.
