Six Antioch Troop 153 Scouts who earned their Eagle awards \u2014 the top rank in Scouting \u2014 were honored at a recent Eagle Scout Court of Honor at Antioch Church on the Rock. All of the Scouts had earned the Eagle Scout rank within the last two years.<\/p>\n

Craig Vickery III earned his Eagle badge on Jan. 14, 2021. Vickery built benches, tables and planter boxes for a Community Based Instruction (CBI) program at Deer Valley High School. The benches give the CBI students the opportunity to have classes outside. The tables replaced rotting ones inside the greenhouse, and the raised planter boxes allow easier access to the students in wheelchairs.<\/p>\n

Parker Reich earned his Eagle Scout rank on Dec. 2, 2021. Reich’s Eagle project included improvements and additions to the Antioch Disc Golf Course on Lone Tree Way. He built five new tee pads, installed a new basket and windsock, built a Prewett Park Disc Golf sign and a mandatory (“mando” or obstacle pole in the fairway) and a bench that contains lost and found slot for lost discs.<\/p>\n

Will Rogers earned his Eagle badge on Aug. 18. His service project included building a wooden flag collection box and a lending library bookcase for the Local VFW #6453 in Antioch.<\/p>\n

Michael Shaikh earned his Eagle Scout rank on Dec. 8, 2021. He constructed three convertible benches and three standing planter boxes for the RES Success Center in Pittsburg. RES Success is an organization that works with special-needs adults helping them prepare and learn everyday rudimentary life skills.<\/p>\n

Matthew Royse earned his Eagle badge on April 8. Royse built three bicycle repair stations for cyclists riding the trails of Los Vaqueros Reservoir. His stations include emergency repair tools and supplies to get cyclists back on the trails and home safely. Local cycling groups, including Delta Valley Velo and Delta Peddlers, said they were happy to benefit from these stations added to the park.<\/p>\n

Albert Wong earned his Eagle Scout rank on Aug. 18. Wong’s Eagle project revitalized the area just outside the Antioch Church of the Rock’s sanctuary. He removed the worn-down benches originally there and replaced them with newly built benches of his own. In addition, he covered the landscape there with a new layer of mulch.<\/p>\n

For those interested in a youth program that includes life skills, community service, camping, hiking and biking opportunities as well as family fun, the Scouting program is available to all youth from kindergarten through 12th grade.
