{"id":8577708,"date":"2022-08-12T11:35:32","date_gmt":"2022-08-12T18:35:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.eastbaytimes.com?p=8577708&#038;preview_id=8577708"},"modified":"2022-08-12T11:40:52","modified_gmt":"2022-08-12T18:40:52","slug":"police-marshawn-lynch-was-asleep-car-damaged-before-arrest","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.eastbaytimes.com\/2022\/08\/12\/police-marshawn-lynch-was-asleep-car-damaged-before-arrest\/","title":{"rendered":"Police: Former Raiders Marshawn Lynch was asleep, car damaged before arrest"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By KEN RITTER | The Associated Press\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>LAS VEGAS \u2014 Former NFL running back Marshawn Lynch was asleep and smelled of alcohol when Las Vegas police found him in his damaged sports car and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mercurynews.com\/2022\/08\/09\/former-raider-marshawn-lynch-arrested-on-suspicion-of-dui-in-las-vegas\/\">arrested him on suspicion of driving while intoxicated<\/a>, according to an arrest report made public Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>Lynch\u2019s attorneys, David Chesnoff and Richard Schonfeld, responded in a statement that Lynch\u2019s car \u201cwas safely parked and not in operation\u201d when police arrived early Tuesday and a driving while intoxicated charge won\u2019t stick.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMarshawn was not pulled over for a DUI,\u201d the statement said. \u201cWe are confident that when all evidence is presented, this will not be a DUI under Nevada law.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center; display: block;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"youtube-player\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/RSYSa-mr4tQ?version=3&#038;rel=1&#038;showsearch=0&#038;showinfo=1&#038;iv_load_policy=1&#038;fs=1&#038;hl=en-US&#038;autohide=2&#038;wmode=transparent\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" style=\"border:0;\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts allow-same-origin allow-popups allow-presentation\"><\/iframe><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The arresting officer, Kevin Barker, reported that Lynch\u2019s black 2020 Shelby GT500 was \u201cundriveable,\u201d with one missing front wheel and the rear driver\u2019s side and front passenger wheels badly damaged.<\/p>\n<p>The arrest report said investigators found markings suggesting the vehicle \u201chit sidewalk areas\u201d before stopping in an industrial section of downtown Las Vegas not far from Main Street.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe driver was asleep behind the wheel with the driver\u2019s door open leaning back in the seat,\u201d the report said, \u201cwith bloodshot, watery eyes and had one shoe on and one shoe off.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The 7:30 a.m. Tuesday arrest came the morning after the Seattle Seahawks \u2014 the team for which Lynch played most of his 12 NFL seasons \u2014 announced that Lynch had been hired as a broadcast special correspondent.<\/p>\n<p>Lynch also played for the Buffalo Bills and Oakland Raiders.<\/p>\n<p>The arrest report said Lynch, 36, was uncooperative with officers and fell asleep several times during questioning. Jail officers \u201chad to use a restraint chair to force a blood draw\u201d after a judge issued a warrant, the report said.<\/p>\n<p>Lynch was later released from Las Vegas City Jail pending a Dec. 7 court date in Las Vegas Municipal Court.<\/p>\n<p>Results of his blood test were not immediately made public. Nevada law bans driving with a blood-alcohol level of 0.08% or more.<\/p>\n<p>Court records show that Lynch entered a no-contest plea to a misdemeanor vehicle parking charge and fined $750 in April in a case that saw charges of failing to report or remain at the scene of an accident dismissed.<\/p>\n<p>Schonfeld, who represented Lynch in that case, declined Thursday to comment about it.<\/p>\n<p>Lynch\u2019s attorneys said in their statement that he \u201cappreciates and is thankful for everyone\u2019s concern and support.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Lynch had 10,413 career rushing yards and 85 rushing touchdowns from 2007-19 and was chosen for the Pro Bowl five times.
